Has this ever happened to you?

An extended family member recently presented me with a brown paper sack containing a handful of 50-year-old photos. They asked if I could “do something with them.”

Now, I’ve made it known that I do not enjoy editing photos, but I just couldn’t say no.

Lucky for me, the first part of my new task was a breeze—the scanning, dividing, and saving part. So to celebrate my win, I thought I would share with you just how breezy it was.

How To Divide Scanned Photos in PS & PSE

If you’ve ever scanned a whole batch of old photos at once, you already know the problem: you end up with one giant image containing several smaller photos. So now what?

The good news is that Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements make it simple to separate them into individual files, even if you’re not super techy.

Why Is It Important to Separate?

Once your photos are separated, you can:

Edit each one individually
Add them to scrapbook pages without awkward cropping
Preserve your family history in a clean, organized way
Avoid the frustration of trying to work with one giant, messy scan

And honestly? It just feels good to bring order to the chaos.
