Hi ,
When was the last time you took a mental vacation?
Most of us (including me) are busy, busy, busy and have lots on our minds. It's all good stuff--working, playing, catching a movie, meeting with friends, taking dancing lessons...and even scrapbooking.
But once in a while we need a mental break from all the busyness.
Which is why Charlie and I went to the Japanese gardens in Portland, Oregon this weekend. It's a garden with intentional interruptions to make you slow down and reflect on what you see.
- A bridge has a right angle turn in the middle so you'll stop and look at the river.
- Stepping stones are built with different size stones and set at slightly different heights so you have to move more slowly.
- Some stone imagery is almost invisible along the path--you have to be paying attention to see it.
I must say it was refreshing and renewing.
Your mental vacation doesn't have to be as formal as a Japanese garden. It could be as simple as sitting under a tree on a hillside for an hour. I know this, though...if you take a mental vacation once in a while, you'll be refreshed and renewed for the rest of life--including scrapbooking!
