Hi ,
Charlie and I had only been dancing 7 weeks when our teacher suggested we sign up for a dance competition. "What? Us?! Is she kidding? We're just baby dancers!"
"It'll be good for you," our teacher said. "We've found that students who compete move ahead faster in their skills. Besides, this competition only comes around once a year, and it's never been in Portland before--it's usually held only in Seattle."
"We'll think about it," we said.
Our main concern was that we didn't want to look like fools on the dance floor, but there was more involved than that. It cost a chunk of change to participate. We mulled it over for several days and then decided to do it. It would be a good challenge for us, and if we did improve, it would be worth the investment.
For the next number of weeks Charlie and I practiced our dance routine every day. We got up early--usually 5:30--left the house by 6:00, reached the ballroom at 6:30, and danced for an hour before heading home so we could be at work by 8:00.
The competition actually involved MORE than we had bargained for. I needed a dance dress. I also needed to put on heavy makeup and false eyelashes so my face could be seen better from a distance. This involved a makeover at Nordstroms and more money to buy makeup. My hair needed to be pulled back with no lose ends wisping out, so I got a false hair bun, which Charlie helped me secure into place.
Was it worth it? Unequivocally, yes! Here's the dance video to prove we actually did it. (While you're there, be sure to like our new Digital Scrapper Facebook fan page!)
And yes, our dancing improved by leaps and bounds.
What about you? As a scrapbooking instructor, I can confidently say, "Those who participate in classes and challenges, improve their skills SO much faster."
Every month we have challenges at our Digital Scrapper Blog, and right now, registration is open for the Easy Page Design class that will move you light years ahead in designing scrapbook pages quickly and easily.
Are you up for the challenge?

Tip of the Week
Custom Frames: Cut and Paste
by Lisa Hanks
Sometimes when I want to add more emphasis to a layout, I crop my photo into a long skinny shape. Most designers don't include frames to accommodate this, but I can customize my frame to my picture.
Come learn how!
