Hi ,

Declutter what, you ask? Your Layers panel, that’s what, and it’s all made possible by the Group command available in PS and now in PSE15.

Why Group?
Grouping common layers—like all the layers that make up your title, for example—helps to declutter and organize your Layers panel.

How to Group
In the Layers panel activate consecutive layers that fit logically together, like a cluster of elements or a set of photos. Then, in the Menu Bar choose Layer > Group Layers. To ungroup, choose Layer > Ungroup Layers.

Or, Use the Shortcuts
  • Ctrl G (Mac: Cmd G) groups active layers.
  • Shift Ctrl G (Mac: Shift Cmd G) ungroups.

NOTE: In Photoshop Elements this shortcut used to clip two layers together, but the folder shortcut stole it away.. The clipping shortcut is now Ctrl Alt G (Mac: Cmd Opt G), which is what it’s been in Photoshop since folders were introduced many versions ago. The same shortcut clips and unclips a layer.

Not yet upgraded to PSE15? Give PSE15 a test drive for free. The grouping feature is just one of the great reasons to take the leap.

See you in the galleries, friend.
