Hi ,
Eyedropper tool or Color Picker tool? Regardless of what you call it, it’s essential in the world of digital scrapbooking.
The Eyedropper tool has a direct line of communication to the Foreground Color Chip. If you click on your document with this tool, the Foreground Color Chip will instantly change to the color of the pixel you clicked on. It’s called sampling.
But did you know . . .
The Eyedropper tool can be used to sample colors from anywhere on your desktop. It’s true! Sampling doesn’t have to happen only within your program.
First, make sure you can see outside your program:
In Windows partially minimize your program by clicking on the middle button in the upper right corner, between the Minimize and Maximize button. Then click and drag from the lower right corner to make the program smaller so you can see some of the desktop.
On a Mac click and drag from the lower right corner to resize the program, or, in the Menu Bar choose Window > Application Frame to hide the back of the program letting you see through to the desktop.
Then do this:
-
Get the Eyedropper tool.
-
On your document, click and hold.
-
Without letting up on your mouse, drag your cursor outside the program to anywhere on your desktop.
-
You should see the Foreground Color Chip changing colors as you drag the cursor around on your desktop or over web pages. Note:
-
When you find a color you like, let go of the mouse button.
-
Voila! Your Foreground Color Chip now matches the last color you sampled.
It’s the little things in life, right? Go forward and be awesome, my friend.
