Hi ,

Elements users—when’s the last time you took a peek at your preferences? Are you aware of the many options available to you?

This week’s free tutorial will have you using the Type tool. So, here’s a question for you:

After committing type, does your program:
  • Let you stay with the Type tool?
  • Or, does it teleport you to the Move tool?

Did you know you have a choice? You do. It’s a preference. How you set your preferences can make a difference in how a tutorial performs for you.

Here’s how to access this Type tool preference.
  • Press Ctrl K (Mac: Cmd K) to open Preferences.
  • In the dialog box, choose General.
  • Check or uncheck Select Move Tool After Committing Text.

Personally, I don’t like being forced back to the Move tool after committing type. I’m like, ”If I want the Move tool, I’ll get the Move tool. Okay?? Gosh!”

So, needless to say, I keep the preference unchecked. It is checked by default.

BTW, Photoshop is much less bossy. There’s no teleporting to tools over there. But, you have tons of other super-cool preferences to check out.

Have a great week.
