Hi ,
Are you a slow scrapper or a fast scrapper?
In my latest poll in Community, a majority of members told me that “I’m too slow” was their biggest scrapbooking struggle.
Maybe I can help with that!
Here are the top three things I’ve discovered to help me finish a scrapbook page faster.
3 Savvy Tips for Swift Scrapping
- Choose ONE journaling font and stick with it.
One of the reasons you and I are toooo slow is because we have too much STUFF. Too much stuff translates to too many choices. And, too many choices translates to more time trying to choose “just the right one” of something.
That Was Then, This Is Now
For example, I used to spend too much time on choosing "just the right journaling font” for my scrapbook pages. Then, I stopped—cold turkey. I now limit myself to ONE journaling font for ALL my scrapbook pages. Taking out that one lengthy decision has saved me loads of time.
My Advice: Choose a print handwriting font similar to your handwriting and use it for all your journaling. This not only saves you time, but it brings unity to your scrapbook pages.
- Use the KISS method for scrapping.
When used as an acronym, KISS stands for Keep It Stupid Simple. (You can also switch the S words.) But what that translates to is, don’t overcomplicate things!
Take the 4 Element Challenge
There is no rule that says you have to put a bunch of elements on your scrapbook page in order for it to look great. Keep it simple and save time by limiting yourself to 4 elements per scrapbook page.
My Advice: Challenge yourself to stick to 4 elements on a page. I regularly do this. Trust me. It will save you TONS of time and your pages will still look great.
- Use a basic template as your starting point.
Many people feel like they spend too much time deciding how to start a scrapbook page. I am one of those people. I get it.
My Advice: Train yourself to use templates — simple ones that will work with any kit and any photos. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel with every page you create.

P.S. Worried templates will constrain and box in your creativity? Maybe it’s time to change your mindset. Scrap It Now templates are meant to be liberating and fiddled with. When I start with a template, my finished page usually looks very different than where I started. But the key is...it gave me a place to start, and that’s where the value lies.
